Birthday girl

Fruit book

First off – I have been diligently working on my fruit book, but I am not going to bore you with progress shots: here’s a seam covered with herringbone , here’s another seam ….and wait there’s more….

Instead I thought I’d bore you with the minutiae of my life.

Four years ago:

I said ‘never again’ for the third time, and actually meant it. Matt ensured this by taking himself off to the doctor when Moo was 6 weeks old, and then spent the weekend clutching a packet of frozen peas to his groin and telling everyone who would listen (not me) that it was waaayyyy worse than childbirth.

Moo was induced 4 weeks early (pre-eclampsia) and at 5 pound something weighed approximately half what the boys did. Would have been a nice easy birth except for the haemorrhaging and subsequent blood transfusions (me not her). She then spent two weeks in hospital refusing to breastfeed, which the hospital was insisting she do before we could take her home – well try telling her that. As if she was going to go to the trouble of sucking when they were feeding her though a tube.

Payback kiss

Moo thanking Tom for her present (5 bits of crap he gleaned from his bedroom floor, wrapped in scrap paper).

I think this photo is a nice juxtaposition to Tom accidentally being nice to Moo and kissing her hand in the above photo. Both boys were thrilled to be big brothers, even though Jimmy cried because he wanted another brother.

Fancy Birthday: domestic goddess super crafty mummy style.

Ha Ha! We didn’t have the 57 of her closest friends from kindergym, kinderdance, kindermusic and kinder-whatever the hell else there is. Just three girls (and four boys (including ours), but they don’t count at sparkly pink princess parties) who just happen to be the (incredibly bratty) offspring of people we happen to like hanging out with. Convenient, no?

And we didn’t have the Disney Princess inflatable bouncy castle, the bought in fairy entertainer, and I don’t even have photos of the beautifully decorated cupcakes and fairy princess tea party that I’d considered briefly. Moo helped decorate the cake, which was lucky really, because then I could blame her. I could show you photos of me clutching a glass of red wine and saying ’salad… I’m supposed to be making salad?’ at about 8pm. Party games comprised sending all the kids to the park next door, and opening the esky (cooler) full of beer. A good time was had by all. Moo thought it was the best party she’d ever had (the only one too).

Moo and I did make party bags for the girls:

So the whole post is not completely off topic (not that that has stopped me in the past).

  10. well, don’t we have even more in common . . . saying “never again” and making it stick. frozen peas to the groin of a whining husband (tho’ i do admit to fantasizing about doing what i could to prove my hubbie’s similar theory of how his vas was SO much worse than childbirth). pre-eclampsia. cute kids;) love the bit about your generous-while-creative-room-cleaning boy.

  13. Please tell Moo I have belated wishes for her birthday! I’m sure she and her little gal pals loved the little bags… too cute. Did she ask at all to wear the wedding dress to the party ? Thanks sooo much for sharing the family pics, priceless.

  14. Nothing more beautiful than a big brother holding his baby sister. Or, a little sister stretching up on tip toes to give big brother a kiss or a hug. I’ve got a few of those memories too.
